My background
I’ve been a partner at Cooney Lees Morgan since 1992 and lead the firm’s civil, commercial and employment disputes resolution team.
We are strong advocates of alternative dispute resolution, particularly mediation, as this often provides the most cost effective and speedy resolution of wide ranging business and property disputes. I have been on LEADR’s (lawyers engaged in alternative dispute resolution) approved panel of mediators since 1996.
Sometimes disputes cannot be resolved short of going to Court. I regularly represent clients in the Courts, and in Arbitrations. Our team also practises in various specialist Tribunals.
I take a great deal of satisfaction from working hard for clients to achieve a desirable outcome for them when they are confronted with a dispute, whether in their business or in their personal affairs.
My life in the Bay of Plenty
My wife, Pip, and I have two children. We enjoy the Bay of Plenty lifestyle. Our children are mad on sport so we spend a lot of time on the sidelines supporting them. I coach my son’s cricket team.
For 7 years between 2004 and 2011 I have been on the board of trustees at St Mary’s Primary School in Tauranga, with the last 6 years as chairperson.
When I find time I enjoy mountain biking and road cycling. I am fairly competitive so I am always trying to keep my mates who train more than me honest. We also enjoy water skiing in the summer and snow skiing in the winter.
